“A juxtaposition of what a girl is and what society thinks a girl should be.
“On the left : Society’s view of a girl - matching bra and panties, makeup, magazine telling you how to please a man and what to wear, a love story with a happy ending, and birth control.
“On the right : What a girl is - comfortable clothing, acne wash, a diary to jot down thoughts and ideas, a tampon, glasses, a book on the tragic life of a young girl, a movie with a not so happy ending and penny jar.
“This photo is a representation of the struggle of young girls today. There is an idea of what a girl should be and the pressure that society puts on us. We are told by television and magazines that we have to present ourselves in a glamourous way in order to attract males and to be accepted in this world.”
