Adam Levner, Executive Director
Adam has worked in the education arena for the last 14 years. He began as a fifth grade teacher, where he saw firsthand the issues confronting educators, parents, and students. He then moved beyond the classroom, taking a position as a community organizer with Stand for Children where he led successful reform efforts at the local/state level that resulted in over $20 million annually in additional revenue for the severely underfunded Prince George's County, MD school district. Adam has also worked as an education consultant for the Center for Community Change and as a freelance photographer, with clients including the Maryland ACLU, DC Scores, the American Federation of Teachers, and the Marshall-Brennan Program. Adam attended a Literacy Through Photography training conducted by Wendy Ewald through the Center for Documentary Studies and has taken numerous photography courses at the Smithsonian and other institutions. Adam is an alumnus of Tufts University and the Nonprofit Management Executive Certificate Program at the Georgetown Public Policy Institute.
Jahi Wise, AmeriCorps*VISTA Member
Jahi is a recent graduate of Morehouse College, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the creator and host of the Voice Radio Project, a progressive radio program oriented towards African-American college students. He grew up in Prince George’s County, MD and is a Bill and Melinda Gates Millennium Scholar.
Emma Nolan-Abrahamian, AmeriCorps*VISTA Member
Emma is a recent graduate of the University of Michigan, where she was a photographer and photo editor for The Michigan Daily. She also secured grant funding to conduct a research project in Cambodia and create a photo essay about life there after the Khmer Rouge.
Claire Allen, AmeriCorps*VISTA Member
Claire is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she studied Anthropology, History, and Religious Studies, and worked as a writing instructor. She garnered funding to conduct research in India toward her senior thesis on educational initiatives for Muslim populations, and spent the last year as an AmeriCorps VISTA in Madison, WI.
Denise Young Ramirez, AmeriCorps*VISTA Member
Denise is a graduate of University of California Los Angeles where she studied International Development and served as a marketing photographer for Fellowship for International Service and Health in Mexico and the Philippines. She spent the last year as an AmeriCorps State & National in Seattle, WA.
