Vision

Critical Exposure's vision is that all children, regardless of race or socio-economic status, will attend equitable and excellent public schools, fulfilling this nation's promise of providing all children with the opportunity to succeed.

We believe that a high-quality public education is a civil right and is fundamental to creating a just democracy. All children deserve to have access to the same level of education regardless of their race or the size of their community's tax base. Our premise is that visual storytelling, combined with key statistics and policy analysis, can be used to mobilize the public in order to bring about significant public education reform.

The policy changes that are required to ensure adequacy and equity in our educational system are not viable without a substantial shift in political will. This shift will not happen without widespread recognition of the injustice and a collective sense of responsibility to address it. Much as the Civil Rights Movement depended on those who were not directly impacted by segregation being exposed to brutal images of racial injustice, the education movement will not succeed so long as Americans are shielded from seeing the reality that exists in many low-income schools.

Our desired long-term outcome is to improve student achievement through the passage of education policies that will promote equity and excellence in public schools.
